OMG I’m so in love this idea ladies!! It’s my new favorite blog already. Like Linda, I’m going to have to work up the courage to tape a video of myself but I’ll do it one day.
And Kate, major major props to you for doing this, the video is fantastic! I love your face, I think it’s beautiful. I’ve lived my whole life with the “jewish” look too but as you said yourself, that only means that you look Russian or Eastern European. Jewish girls especially tend to describe ourselves as “Jewish” with such a negative or sarcastic tone to it, but why? Other ethnic groups don’t do this, you don’t hear “I look Indian” and take it as a negative comment. Let’s change this for ourselves! It means we have beautiful big brown eyes and abundant curls with smooth olive skin! And just because our noses are not Barbie button cute does not indicate they are “huge”, it’s just one more feature.
I also love that you’re eating chocolate cake and that it’s not even your favorite but who cares. I’m not a chocolate person either, but it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy brownies from time to time. We place everything into such extreme categories, like foods are good or bad based on nutrition and if you dare allow yourself a treat it better be the best damn thing in the world or else it’s not worth it. Forget that, it’s just cake and our amazing brain powers can be used for much better causes.

Well, I rambled on and on lol, sorry to analyze your video but the new blog excites me. You guys are awesome!

@Gaby Thanks so much!! I love your critique of the whole “Jewish” as a negative adjective thing. You’re completely right– it’s ridiculous that we use “Jewish” to mean “unattractive.” We should reclaim the word.

A thought: Even if some of us do have “huge” noses, that should be ok too! And of course, it’s not just Jewish women whose faces look different from the models on billboards. This applies to everyone.

Thanks for the sensitivity and inspiration! Can’t wait to see your video! :)

I loved every second of this — your honesty, your raw yet vulnerable wit, your sassy attitude, and, of course, your cake. You rock and you are brave. I hope you do more videos, and I’ve definitely subscribed to your blog. :)

I can’t tell you how much I LOVED this video! You have a great attitute… Fellow Jewish-nose/Eastern European peasant descendant here and yeah, I look in the mirror and see a nose with a tiny face garnish. But ’tis true- nobody looks like me.

Forget even the blog, I think I am in love with Kate. I am jewish too. I have a small nose, but it has the classic *bump*. I also have the curly hair and general paleness associated with this religion :) I love you kate, and I think you are really actually beautiful, and we look like we could be related . Whenever I tell people I am Jewish, they love it and start to describe thier own heritage. Be proud! And I love the cake eating too lol.

Kate, you ARE beautiful! And, you are soooo right. We all agonize over our perceived flaws, but no one else sees them. I, too, have a big nose and have thought of plastic surgery since 4th grade (the first time a boy teased me about it). Before that, I was oblivious to how my nose looked. So sad. Now, I have 2 beautiful daughters but wouldn’t have surgery because the message it would send them about their own beauty. I hope they can love their looks more that I have loved my own. Don’t get me wrong, I am considered a very attractive woman, but I cannot accept myself for who I am & how I look. We are never good enough, thanks to the comparison game the media creates and we see everywhere we go. Thank you, thank you for this blog. Bravo!!!
